Alf Becker was a master sign painter and lettering stylist who created well over 100 alphabets for a monthly feature in the trade magazine “Sign of the Times” during the 1930s and 1940s.

Thanks to Tod Swormstedt of ST pubications for supplying the source material.

One of these designs features a modernized version of Old English or “text” lettering making it more legible for sign and show card work.

Doing away with extra curves and swashes, this type style is more calligraphic in nature than classic.

Modern English JNL was modeled from Becker’s original design, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Designed by Natanael Gama, Nazaré is a display sans font family. This typeface has six styles and was published by Ndiscover. Download Now Server 1 Download Now Server 2 Download Now Server 3 It all started with a Portuguese soap packaging from the first half of the 20th Century. The 5 uppercase letters that spell NAZARÉ were sufficient to drive the creation of this design. Nazaré fits in a semi-serif category and has a large contrast. It works outstandingly in display use specially in the bolder weights that have even more contrast. The regular weights have a more moderate contrast and an overall less extravagant design, fitting best in the typographical conventions. This provides a better render in text use.
